What is ‘Brand Purpose’ and why does it matter?

‘Brand purpose’ is not just about making money. It is, essentially, the reason your brand came to exist in the first place. A brand purpose connects with customers on a more emotional or personal level. 

Why is it important to have a brand purpose?

A unique brand purpose can set you apart from your competitors! As well as a recognisable brand identity that differentiates your brand from others in your industry, a brand purpose gives a more insightful look into why you started and how you got to where you are right now!

Your brand purpose adds value to your business, to the lives of your customers and even to society as a whole. Knowing why you started out and holding your values close is an important part of owning a business; if you have these values in place, you can build a more emotional relationship between the brand and the customer. This, in turn, encourages loyalty and trust in your brand, its products and services, and also in you as people.

How do I communicate my brand purpose?

Whether you’re starting a new business venture, or revisiting your business roots, there are a few questions that you can ask yourself about your business in order to tell your brand’s story.

  • Why did you start your business?
  • What are your values?
  • What do you want to stand for?
  • How do you want your customers to perceive you?
  • What impact do you want to have on the world?

Once you have answered these questions, you should be ready to tell your brand’s story! Just remember to be clear about your brand and why you do what you do!
